Wacław Zimpel has spent his entire life searching for new musical languages and breaking down boundaries between genres and cultures. The Polish multi-instrumentalist is always on the lookout for collaborations where different instruments, genres, and cultures can meet.
This quest brought him to Bangalore in southern India, where he found new friends and collaborators who could teach him about the Carnatic music tradition. After studying it for over a year, Wacław Zimpel formed the band Saagara with his friends and fellow musicians, and they have now released three albums.
Saagara combines immersive electronic tones with the rich musical traditions of Carnatic music, and the ensemble embraces both body and soul as cultural barriers are broken down alongside genres and national borders among the performing artists.
