Yarákä (IT)
The southern Italian group Yarákä draws on a wealth of multi-ethnic traditions to create their healing and ritualistic music. Each song from their latest release, Curannera, cleanses body and mind of suffering and seeks to remove the blockages that can hinder the flow of energy.
Curannera is the name for a female healer who finds wisdom in many branches of nature and reality and has long been a muse-like figure for Yarákä’s musical practice. She is often of Andean origin and aims to connect herself and others with the Earth, which, in turn, shows its respect by sharing its wisdom.
The group draws from a multitude of traditions across borders but also has a deeply local focus in its exploration and use of the Tarantine dialect and southern Italian music traditions, rooted in African rhythms. A healing ritual that transcends borders and eras in history.
