These three musicians have poured all their love into Ethio-jazz, and after releasing several phenomenal records in the genre, you’re in for a treat at this year’s Resonator Festival. Their music pays homage to the genre’s history and profound cultural influence, infused with funky rhythms and cinematic vibes.
The genre was born in the mid-20th century when Mulatu Astatke brought his Ethiopian roots with him to his music studies in London, New York City, and Boston. He crafted the genre by blending Ethiopian musical traditions with Latin and jazz, leading a golden era of Ethiopian music as a bandleader and multi-instrumentalist.
Neil Innes, Joost Hendrickx, and Richard Ormrod carry this tradition forward with their own distinct style—funky rhythms and trippy aesthetics, merging into cross-cultural sonic journeys with an open mind for what the future holds. In the hands of The Sorcerers, we are all here to celebrate and embrace the new.
