Ki! weaves many of the world's threads into his diverse sounds, creating a musical project that unapologetically blends genres with both nostalgia and innovation. Behind the name is multi-instrumentalist Christian Ki Dall, who boasts an impressive CV as both a musician and artist.
Ki! was born in South Korea and raised in Denmark, and his broad love for different cultures is clearly reflected in his music, as found on his debut double LP, The Boy From Haeundae Beach, which was released to highly positive reviews in 2022.
The music reflects a multitude of genres, assembled like a nostalgic scrapbook after a long journey around the world. One day your’e lounging on the beach, the next you are partaking in the intense, urban life of a bustling city. The soundscapes lovingly capture various moods and places, but also many of Ki!’s inspirations from other artists.
It’s both eclectic and holistic as Ki! navigates through groovy Afro-beats adorned with overplayed guitar solos, straightforward disco, and then into Asian retro-synth. The impressions are many in this well-executed, audible world tour.
